This really could be called my “anytime travel kit” to be honest. There are a few first aid items that I’m almost never without when we’re away and summer really only adds 1-2 things to that, now that I’m really thinking about it.

  • Homeopathic small kit – I love this one and it’s nearly always with me in my bag. It’s got 16 remedies in it and I’ve added 2 that we always seem to need. In the summer, I add cantharis for burns (see this post for more on that!).
  • Activated charcoal – we use this for upset stomachs, too much food, too many adult beverages the night before (um, hello, this is obviously only for actual adults – we’re a family office around here!), and barf. For the tiny humans, I open up a capsule and mix it with water in an opaque water bottle because black water freaks them out.
  • Bandaids – because a good bandaid can do a lot of magical things. I sure don’t have a favorite one to link, but you know your people, so get awesome ones.
  • Electrolytes/salt – we dig LMNT in our house and use it, even with the kiddos.
  • Collagen – This can get tossed into your coffee or a smoothie or OJ (more on this later!), but it’s the most abundant protein in your body!
  • The Ear Stuff – I make this stuff fresh every year in a small glass dropper bottle that’s 2 oz (yup, it’s TSA friendly sized!). That link will take you to a blog I wrote a way long time ago with the recipe and the story.
  • Itchy Bite Stuff – While we don’t use a ton of essential oils in our house, we love a few select ones, including this homemade roller bottle of itchy bite quelling goodness. And better news? The glass roller bottles are pretty hardy and super easy to throw into a bag and go!
  • Sunscreen – we love and trust this one. (You all know I’m a Beautycounter consultant, and I make a small commission if you buy anything from the sunscreen linked – but this one I would share with you anyway because that’s how much I love it.)

Phew, I think that’s it! Pretty simple stuff that’s all generally easy to find and fairly inexpensive, but we don’t leave home without it – especially in the summertime!

What are you essentials?

xoxoxo,

Dr. Jamie
