We made it to summer, y’all! Finally… sort of? For my house, it feels like it’s been summer since Spring Break – but not. With our kids out of school, bedtimes have slipped a little later, snacks abound, and way too many movies have been watched on Disney+.
But now it’s really summer! What to do?! Things are starting to open back up – and you should know that I fall solidly into the “Yay! Things are opening and we can DO stuff again” camp. I don’t want to run anyone off or force my thoughts and views onto you, but feel the need to be transparent as usual with you. I want us to get out and about again, y’all; we need to for so many reasons. Does that mean that I am headed straight out to the zoo or pool that just opened back up and licking people’s eyeballs? No way. While I’m absolutely positive no one has all the answers here, or knows for sure the best way to live life, I’m going to go ahead and advocate for getting out in ways that you and your family feel comfortable with – if that means hanging out 6 feet or more away from people, cool. If that means wearing a mask around other people, cool. If that means using hand sanitizer more often, cool. Bah, I’m digressing here! Basically, what I’m saying is do what YOU feel comfortable doing – but get outside and do the things, please! Fresh air, sunshine, and physical activity are 3 of the best medicines ever created in this big beautiful world!
We have good friends who are the BEST about making a “Summer Bucket List” every year and I think it’s just such a cool idea that I’m stealing it! (Thanks, B Family!) They get input from all the kids and create a giant list (not even kidding – it’s on one of those big notepads!) of the things that they must do that summer. I love it! While our lists *might* look a little different this year than before, I’m creating one with my people for Summer 2020 – and we’re aiming to knock as much out as we can! Mine won’t be as cute and pretty as our friend’s (she is just so dang creative and has the best teacher-y writing!), but it’s happening! So far, we’ve added: Fossil Rim (in Glen Rose – and that’s got to include a trip to see my bestie, Dr. Jen at Glen Rose Chiropractic, of course!), the Dallas Zoo, the Ft. Worth Zoo (and hopefully water park!), Epic Waters in Grand Prairie, Great Wolf Lodge (what?!), some dinosaurs at the park (um, what?! You know this was the 3 year old dude!), hanging out at Mama and Daddy’s offices, and making s’mores with friends and homemade marshmallows once per week. I have no idea who threw the once per week on there, but, I can almost always be counted on for having homemade marshmallows in my freezer. Let me know if you need some – you’ll never go back to store bought, ha!
So, there you have it. The start of our Summer 2020 Bucket List! What is on your bucket list? If hanging out at Dr. Jamie’s office is on your kiddo’s list, please send me a picture – and I’ll happily hang with y’all!
Be well!
xoxox,
Dr. Jamie
(For the record, I haven’t ever licked anyone’s eyeball… nor had someone do that to me… but, many of you have heard me say this phrase over the years about illness in general – “Dr. Jame, how do I stay well in the winter/when I travel/in the busiest seasons (adjustment aside, of course!)???” My answer is almost ALWAYS “wash your hands often and well, take your vitamins, and don’t lick people’s eyeballs.” Seriously. Ask any of my long-time patients – or, better yet, my own family!)
