“You NEED to be getting adjusted – and make sure your chiropractor is Webster certified!”
Wait, another thing you need to know all about?! You’re already growing a human and inundated with all of the “shoulds” and “need tos”, right? Yikes, mama – it’s a lot, I know! Hang in there, it’ll all be ok.
Webster Technique is a specific analysis and correction of sacral subluxation and subsequent check and release of the surrounding soft tissue to facilitate normal biomechanics of the pelvis. What the heck does that mean?! Basically, it’s your favorite chiropractor (Hi,I’m Dr. Jamie!) checking your sacrum and pelvis in a super specific way, adjusting you, rechecking that motion and allowing your body to move and groove exactly how it’s meant to. In pregnancy, this translates to a happy mama whose babe can squiggle and wiggle around in utero and get into an awesome position for birth.
Chiropractors who are Webster certified have taken additional training in this technique and for care of pregnant mamas – and we also continue to support the ICPA in it’s research and support of chiropractic as a profession. If you need to find a Webster certified chiropractor – or just want more information – you can head over to the ICPA website! There are some excellent resources there and they’re not just about pregnancy and chiropractic, but things pediatric!
I feel the need to add (for SO MANY reasons) that, as a Webster certified chiropractor, I don’t “flip breech babes” or “turn them” or even work on that baby at all. All I’m doing is adjusting you mama, and allowing for nature and your babe’s innate wisdom to do the rest. In cases of mamas with babes who are breech, we often have success in giving mama’s body enough motion and room for baby to turn into a better birthing position, but that isn’t ever my aim – it’s a nice side benefit that happens sometimes. The worst is when this technique has been advertised as “THE WAY” and I get a panicked call from a new patient at 38 weeks who is freaking out – there’s still time for baby to turn but now there’s added stress on these soon-to-be parents and a sense of tremendous urgency. For this reason, I recommend starting chiropractic care as early in pregnancy as possible (or even before!). I know that I wouldn’t have had 2 awesome pregnancies with my amazing chiropractor!
Let me know what questions I can answer for you, mama!
xoxox,
Dr. Jamie
This gorgeous mama happens to be one of my very best friends – and this picture is more than a couple of years old, but it’s always going to be one of my favorites! Isn’t she GLOWING?!
