I research a lot of wellness things, y’all. Like, alot. You come in and tell me things and I research those – and try them. I stumble across things while looking for other things. I just emailed our kindergarten teacher a wellness shot recipe that I found while looking up a ginger brew recipe that I love – we’ve been passing ideas and places for these kind of things back and forth all winter! (No joke, we have the COOLEST and BEST kindergarten teacher ever – Hi Mrs. McGraw!)

But, really, like my husband, that was a whole lot of “short story long” to just tell you that we try ALOT of wellness-y things in our house. Some work really well, some, well, not so much, and ick.

In no particular order and with my own brand of commentary, here are a few things I’m excited to try this month –

Real Food RN – Tart Cherry Elderberry Gummies for Wellness and Sleep https://www.realfoodrn.com/healthy-gummies-cold-flu-sleep/ OK, I made these in January and we dig them. Seriously. Yum. I can’t really say how these affect my sleep or my kids’ sleep, but I’m thinking it’s a win – even if I eat one earlier in the day, I think my sleep that night is more restful. Placebo effect – maybe yes, maybe no. Either way? Yup, I’ll take it!

Homemade Ginger Wellness Shots- These look amazing and I can’t wait to play with this one! It’s a super basic recipe and once I get it tweaked for my family, I’ll share it! (this is totally the thing I just emailed our amazing teacher!)   – https://www.bonappetit.com/story/homemade-ginger-shots

Lemon Ginger Brew from Bon Appetit – This one is kind of a winter staple for us that I tweak here and there. It’s awesome as a shot, but I really like it diluted in some hot water as a tea. When I’ve got the sniffles or a sore throat, it’s awesome. Here’s the story behind it, then a direct link to the recipe.   https://www.bonappetit.com/story/never-fail-lemon-ginger-brew

Homemade oatmeal bath – ok, I’m cheating here a tiny bit. My kiddos had chicken pox this fall and I totally made some… which was kind of weird and gross, actually. How? Grind up oatmeal REALLY fine, sprinkle in tub. I need to figure out a fiber grind in this and silken it up with cornstarch or clay or something. And maybe a drop of lavender for more soothing. Perfection is coming in this one, I know.

Thyme Honey for Coughs – this one is SUPER simple… add clean, dry thyme sprigs to a glass container, cover with raw honey. Let it infuse for awhile (I think I did 2 months in my fridge – yeah, I may have forgotten about it for a second), then strain it into a clean jar and enjoy in tea, or just straight when you’ve got a cough! Delish and so helpful with a cough that just won’t quit. This one was almost direct from Dr. Aviva Romm – she’s amazing!

Tell me – what things are you doing to keep you and your people healthy?

xoxo,

Dr. Jamie
